Project AWARE

On Saturday 20th September, Divers in Paradise and Paradise Beach Resort were involved in one of the biggest Project AWARE beach and reef clean ups to date.
This event was conducted world wide and promotes the importance of educating people to look after our fragile planet.

Marion Siepe, the owner of Divers in Paradise, and the management of Paradise Beach Resort, were responsible for organising the cleaning of Maenam beach.

With help from The Dive Academy, Penguin Divers, Lucky Cow & Samui Taekwondo, more than 60 people joined in with the Project AWARE clean up day, which included staff from the hotel and Paul, the diving instructor from Divers in Paradise.

Around 60 kilos of rubbish including bottles, cigarette butts, cans and building materials were collected along the stretch of beach outside the hotel and as far as Laem Sai, almost 2 ½ kilometres away. Although the reef was very clean, a small fishing net was cut away from the coral without any damage and half an old anchor was recovered and disposed of.

Other beaches were cleaned as well.
Kandaburi, Zazen, Villa Lawana, New Star Resort and Samui Villas & Homes joined the event and cleaned their respective beachstrips.

Divers in Paradise and Paradise Beach Resort would like to thank all those involved, both locally and world wide, for helping on this most important day. We hope this has been a platform for thought when visiting our beaches and coral reefs.
