Fresh and local produce delivered to your door: James is the supplier offering home delivery of fresh and local food. This means you can get all these products without having to drive all over the island to find them. James says " All is going well... a few new customers... and a few new suppliers - a vegetarian chef is coming up with a list of healthy options on bread and pasta plus some prepared dishes... Hilary is adding her yummy seed candies, and hopefully found a source for a weekly organic fruit and veg box...
Basically this is a listing of all the good things being made, grown or even imported here on Samui… Healthier things will get more attention, but there will be no shortage of pies, cakes and chocolate too… so do check it all out. The contents will grow and change every week as more farmers, vendors, suppliers, bakers and makers are included. So, if you know of anyone or something the whole island should know about, then please let us know." For a directory of goods and a new editable order form you can fill in and email to him, contact James at samuifreshandlocal@gmail.com

On Friday, 30th October 2009 the Green Island Dive Operators Association (GIDOA) was in action again in Laem Sor. A concerned expat had discovered a 30sqm fishing net whilst he was free diving. Mr. Scott had made several attempts to remove the huge net himself but without success. When he told his concerns to Shelley from the MALA organization, she immediately advised him to contact the Divers Association. On Sunday, 1st November GIDOA organized a group of divers and within two hours the net was removed from the coral and the marine life had their space and freedom back.
GIDOA is an association of some dive centers on Koh Samui. The association is working closely with the Green Island Project, teaches Special Awareness Education for children and interested adults, conducts regular Beach Clean ups and monitors the reefs around the island with the goal to preserve the beauty of the ocean and the island.

EXPATS EMERGENCY INFORMATION AWARENESS. If you have an accident/health insurance policy you should carry the card with you at all times in a place where it can be easily found.
In the event of you being unconscious, information of your insurers and next of kin / best friend on the island are needed immediately. Precious time is wasted trying to contact people in your mobile who may or may not be able to inform the hospitals about your circumstances, insurer, husband/wife, credit card etc. You will probably not receive any treatment until these facts have been verified (other than in Nathon Public Hospital).
This period is very precious and is called ‘The Golden Hour’ and in terms of chances of recovery, it is vital that this time is not wasted and your information is immediately available to the hospitals. If they cannot determine anything about you, Samui Rescue are then called to transport you to Nathon Hospital.
If you do not have an insurance card, it is a good idea to have a card printed with contact details of someone, on the island, who can take responsibility for your medical care. You could even state which hospital you want to be treated at if you have a preference. It is also advisable to have this printed in Thai.

Advice from Snopes.com By now, I suspect everyone is familiar with www.snopes.com and/or www.truthorfiction.com for determining whether information received via email is just that: true/false or fact/fiction. Both are excellent sites.
Any time you see an email that says forward this on to '10' of your friends, sign this petition, or you'll get bad luck, good luck, or whatever, it almost always has an E-Mail tracker program attached that tracks the cookies and emails of those folks you forward to. The host sender is getting a copy each time it gets forwarded and then is able to get lists of 'active' emails addresses to use in SPAM emails, or sell to other spammers.
Almost all emails that ask you to add your name and forward on to others are similar to that mass letter years ago that asked people to send business cards to the little kid in Florida who wanted to break the Guinness Book of Records for the most cards. All it was, and all any of this type of email is, is a way to get names and 'cookie' tracking information for telemarketers and spammers - to validate active email accounts for their own profitable purposes.
You can do your friends and family members a GREAT favor by sending this information to them; you will be providing a service to your friends, and will be rewarded by not getting thousands of spam emails in the future!
If you have been sending out (FORWARDING) the above kinds of email, now you know why you get so much SPAM!
Do yourself a favor and STOP adding your name(s) to those types of listings regardless how inviting they might sound!
You may think you are supporting a GREAT cause, but you are NOT in the long run. Instead, you will be getting tons of junk mail later! Plus, we are helping the spammers get rich! Let's don't make it easy for them!
Also: email petitions are NOT acceptable to Congress or any other organization. To be acceptable, petitions must have a signed signature and full address of the person signing the petition.
Tourist Police. Louise Rawlings is the new volunteer team leader for the Tourist Police. There are plans to have a mobile unit on Chaweng High Street from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. several nights a week to assist tourists. They also plan to be present at the Full Moon parties. Presently, there are 12 volunteers but to operate efficiently the Tourist Police are in need of more helpers - both men and women. Applicants require good English, be good natured, have good health and a clean record. Full background checks are done on every applicant. If anyone has a computer or laptop which is no longer required, the Tourist Police office would be most grateful. The EMERGENCYnumber to call for the Tourist Police is 1155. This number is now used throughout Thailand. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Louise Rawlings on loubierawlings@yahoo.com or Linda Freundlich at linda_freundlich@yahoo.com

If you suspect that your dog has eaten poison you must act IMMEDIATELY. The signs to look for are:
IMMEDIATE ACTION Give charcoal. Give 5 to 10 tablets for a 5 kg dog. For a dog between 15 and 20 kg you have to give 20 to 30 tablets. Should be mixed with water. Give as much as you can! Charcoal can be bought in every pharmacy; it is only about Bt. 20 for 10 capsules. OR The whites of raw eggs (3 - 5) OR Coconut milk
This will give you time to get the animal to the vets as they will be dehydrated and have a very high temperature. Do not induce vomiting when the dog has difficulties breathing, has seizures or is already unconscious. KNOWING WHAT TO DO IMMEDIATELY IS VITAL - IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED, IT WILL BE TOO LATE. The following website gives a comprehensive list of poisons and their treatment http://www.workingdogs.com/doc0175.htm
